The Bear Creek Trail links two of the city’s most popular large parks, the 533-acre Columbia Cosmopolitan Recreation Area and the 81.5-acre Albert-Oakland Park. In general, the trail follows the natural drainage system of the Bear Creek and runs in an east/west direction across the northern part of the city. The limestone trail is approximately 4.8 miles in length. The preliminary planning for Bear Creek Trail began as part of the City’s Greenbelt Plan in the early 1990’s and was dedicated in November 2001. Visit the website for information on the trailheads and connectors.

A Girls on the Run® Running Buddy must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event. The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle, and harness the inner strength that they possess. Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today. The Running Buddy acts as a personal cheerleader for a Girls on the Run participant by attending the practice 5k and the end of season Celebration 5k. The Running Buddy completes the 5k with their girl buddy and expresses support and enthusiasm for her accomplishment! Depending on the needs, Running Buddies may be paired with one girl, with a small group of 2 or 3 girls, or they may be asked to run alongside the group to encourage and support the girls.
